How to Start a Korean Skincare Routine (Even if You're Lazy & Super Sensitive)
When you’ve got skin that reacts to just about everything — face cream, shampoo, even the air sometimes — skincare stops being fun and becomes damage control.
I have ultra-sensitive, acne-prone skin, and I don’t have the luxury of experimenting with trending products. My eyes get swollen from scented cleansers, my cheeks break out from essential oils, and even a floral shampoo can trigger a skin disaster.
Here’s what actually works for me: a minimalist Korean skincare routine that’s gentle, lazy-friendly, and totally fragrance-free.
๐ฟ Step 1: Double Cleansing — the Sensitive Way
Even if I only wear sunscreen, I always double cleanse at night. Skipping this step made my pores clog and breakouts flare.
I start with the Dr. TROUB Skin Returning Cleansing Milk. It’s a washable, low-irritation cleanser that removes sunscreen and makeup without stinging my eyes or stripping my skin. I’ll be writing a full review soon, but spoiler: this is one of the few oil-free options my skin can handle.
Then, I follow up with Dr.G Red Blemish Clear Soothing Foam, a fragrance-free foaming cleanser with a pH-balancing formula and Cica complex. It’s gentle, non-stripping, and never causes milia or irritation.
๐ซ No Rubbing Allowed
After rinsing, I don’t rub my face with a towel — that just makes things worse.
Instead, I pat gently with a soft towel to absorb water. Before my skin completely dries out, I apply La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+, a thick, calming cream that soothes redness and supports my damaged barrier.
This cream is non-comedogenic, fragrance-free, and tested for allergy safety — perfect for my reactive skin.
☀️ Morning Routine (Simple & Safe)
In the morning, I skip the first cleanse and just use the Dr.G cleanser to freshen up.
After that, I reapply the same moisturizer. When I go out, I finish with fragrance-free, non-comedogenic sunscreen — mineral or chemical doesn’t matter, as long as it’s allergy-tested and gentle.
Patch-testing is a must.
๐งด Hair Products Matter Too
Even my shampoo affects my face.
If I use anything with a strong scent, I get bumps around my hairline and my eyes water like crazy. So I switched to low-fragrance shampoo, and I stopped using heavy treatments. Your scalp isn’t the only thing that absorbs those ingredients!
⏳ During Flare-Ups: No Exfoliation
When my skin is in recovery mode, I avoid exfoliators for 4 weeks — no scrubs, no acids, no peels. Just hydration and barrier repair.
This gives my skin a chance to calm down and strengthen itself without being stripped or overstimulated.
๐ก Final Thoughts
Skincare doesn’t need to be complicated — it needs to be safe.
If your face hurts, burns, itches, or breaks out, that’s your sign to simplify.
My current routine might look “boring,” but it’s the only one that works for me:
Gentle double cleanse → soothing moisturizer → safe sunscreen. That’s it.
Your skin doesn’t need drama — it needs peace.
