“I Found Squid Game Yakgwa at Daiso ๐ฐ๐ท๐ฌ”
I stopped by Daiso today and picked up something I definitely wasn’t planning on:
a Squid Game-themed dalgona yakgwa.
For anyone unfamiliar, Daiso is a super popular discount store chain in Korea — kind of like a mix between Dollar Tree and a tiny Target.
It’s where you go when you need batteries, dish sponges, cute pens, snacks, skincare… literally anything.
Koreans love it for the affordable prices, and honestly, I always find something I didn’t know I needed.
Today, that unexpected item was a pack of honey cookies styled after Squid Game. Yep.
So first, some context.
Yakgwa is a traditional Korean sweet made with honey, flour, and sesame oil. It’s usually sticky, rich, and super nostalgic — something your grandma might serve during holidays.
This one’s different though.
It’s a mini version, dalgona-flavored (like that burnt sugar candy from Squid Game), and individually wrapped with cartoon versions of the show’s creepy doll and pink guards.
It’s hilarious and adorable at the same time.

๐ฌ Taste test: legit or gimmick?
I opened one, took a bite, and… not bad at all.
It’s soft, chewy, and not overly sweet.
There’s definitely a slight caramelized edge that gives it that “dalgona” vibe, but it doesn’t feel artificial or weird.
It’s way less oily than traditional yakgwa, and the small size makes it easy to snack on without feeling heavy.
And yes, I took a bite before I remembered to take a photo ๐
๐ Packaging wins, too
I mean, come on — Squid Game branding on traditional Korean snacks?
This is the kind of thing tourists would love to take home, and locals would buy just for fun.
At 2,000 won (about $1.50), it’s a cheap thrill with great Instagram potential.

๐ญ Final thoughts
This is what I love about Korean snack culture:
You walk in for cotton pads and come out with dessert inspired by a violent Netflix show.
And somehow, it works.
Would I buy it again? Yeah, probably.
It’s tasty, funny, and uniquely Korean in the best way.
If you ever visit Korea — or have a Daiso nearby — keep an eye out.
You might just discover your next favorite weird little snack.
